QuickTip is a beautifully designed tip calculator application for iOS.
Submitted by: Keith Lee
Time spent: 8 hours spent in total
The following required functionality is complete:
- User can enter a bill amount, choose a tip percentage, and see the tip and total values.
- Settings page to change the default tip percentage.
The following optional features are implemented:
- UI animations
- Remembering the bill amount across app restarts (if <10mins)
- Using locale-specific currency and currency thousands separators.
- Making sure the keyboard is always visible and the bill amount is always the first responder. This way the user doesn't have to tap anywhere to use this app. Just launch the app and start typing.
The following additional features are implemented:
- Three default tips and percentages are shown. Users can change the default percentage for each tip
- Beautifully animated UI with a paged view layout. Settings page is a swipe away
- Warm/cool theme
Here's a walkthrough of implemented user stories:

Converting tips to integers for display. Dividing by 100 didn't always result in the expected value in Swift.
Coming up with a new design along with the appropriate colors to use was a challenge.
Learning Swift and how best to deal with optionals was a challenge.
