You will not need a visa to come to the UK on official government business for your country if you’re a serving government minister.

You can apply for an [exempt vignette](/exempt-vignette) to help you avoid delays when you enter the UK. Your partner or family members might also be able to apply.

### Transiting through the UK

You will not need a visa to transit through the UK (on your way to another country) while travelling on any official government business if you:

+ have an [electronic travel authorisation (ETA)](/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta)
+ have an [EU Settlement Scheme family permit](/family-permit/eu-settlement-scheme-family-permit)
+ have a [Home Office travel document](/apply-home-office-travel-document), for example you're a refugee or stateless person
+ have a [Standard Visitor visa](/standard-visitor)
+ have a [Marriage Visitor visa](/marriage-visa)

Otherwise, you’ll need to apply for either a:

* [Direct Airside Transit visa](/transit-visa/direct-airside-transit-visa) if you’re not going through border control
* [Visitor in Transit visa](/transit-visa/visitor-in-transit-visa) if you’re going through border control
