Hi,
In order to run espresso UI tests, an activity lifecycle monitor needs to run alongside the runner as an "interface for tests to use when they need to query the activity lifecycle state". I added the monitor implementation from JUnit's test runner's opensource code, and got it to work on my espresso tests. I also added some explanation of using ui testing frameworks to your readme.
