Tethys Platform Repository Cleanup

Attention all Tethys Platform Devs

If you have a Fork of Tethys Platform or regularly contribute to Tethys Platform this message is important!

As we have been wrapping up development on Tethys 4, we have taken the opportunity to clean up the repository and perform some long-overdue maintenance. Specifically:

• The default branch of Tethys Platform is now called main instead of master. The old master branch has been renamed to legacy. Going forward the latest development version of Tethys Platform will be found in the main branch.

• We reduced bloat in the repository, resulting in a much smaller download when you clone the repository:

  • All images and other large files in the docs/ folder have been migrated to git-lfs. If you are working in the docs, you will need to install git-lfs to download these files.
  • We removed large files that are no longer used from the history. This includes all of the static/vendor directories (which are no longer used in Tethys 4) and some images. If your apps/portals referenced these files, you will need to find alternatives when you upgrade to Tethys 4.

As a side effect of these changes, the history was completely rewritten on all branches, which means any checked-out branches or Forks will not be compatible with the branches in the repository. As a result, I'd recommend the following actions:

• If you maintain a Fork, delete the Fork and re-Fork.
• If you have branches based on the old branches, the following process may help:
  • rename your branch with _bak (e.g.: my_branch -> my_branch_bak).
  • check out the new version of the base branch (e.g. if you originally branched off master, checkout main).
  • create a new branch from the new base branch with the same name as your branch (e.g.: my_branch).
  • cherrypick your commits from my_branch_bak to the new branch my_branch.
  • if your branch is on a remote you'll need to force-push over it.
  • when you are sure the new branch has all of your commits, delete my_branch_bak.
