Nextcloud AIO but without Nextcloud for hosted instances #5968
-
Okay, hear me out ;) There are several providers of hosted Nextcloud (e.g. Hetzner). They provide a very easy to use, cost-efficient Nextcloud solution that is reliable and – most importantly – has backups that you don't need to worry about. Now, what they don't have is power: no high-performance backend for Talk, no Office backend, no Whiteboard backend, and so on. I think it would be interesting to support hosting these additional services using Nextcloud AIO. Basically, Nextcloud AIO would provide everything BUT Nextcloud itself and expose these services so that a hosted Nextcloud instance can use them. We would have the peace of mind of a hosted solution but could benefit from the power of those additional services. And if those services experience a downtime or loss of data, it would be no problem as they are stateless. Maybe we would also be able to share those services with multiple Nextcloud instances so we could pool financial resources. I'm aware this is not the idea behind AIO, as the name says. But is it something that could be done and you would consider? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts or alternative ideas. |

Hi, this is indeed not the idea of AIO. However if you want, you can use some of its features by re-using the containers that are built for it. See https://github.com/nextcloud/all-in-one/blob/main/manual-install/latest.yml. However this is of course not supported by us, so if you run into troubles with setting this up, I will not be able to help you. |
