A majority of students are finding the task to build a React client for Deshawn's too big of a jump at the end of book II. I suggest updating the client to include a bit more template code so that the students can focus on building the API, and make the front-end tasks for that project a bit easier.

what if you made it optional. some people could get a minimal template, and some people could just start from scratch if they feel comfortable doing it
There is already a minimal template provided, which most students were working on for over a week. That said, there is no harm in both enhancing the template and making it optional. That certainly covers a wider delta of students who can still all work on it.
