Did support for python.venvPath go away with a recent release?

With VSCode version 1.94.2, python extension version v2024.16.1 running on a remote machine, I cannot use "Python: Select Interpreter" to select an interpreter in a folder listed in my python.venvPath setting.
For full disclosure, I typically use the default virtual environment created by tox. So I have python.venvPath set to (on my remote machine):

It seems to me that this used to work. I could select the interpreter in the .tox/default virtual environment created by tox. Did something change? Or am I misremembering this working for me? Any clues?

I've been playing with python.venvPath trying to figure this out. At the moment, it looks like: ${workspaceFolder}/.tox/default

This doesn't appear to have anything to do with the fact that I am (was) remotely connected. I see the same problem with a local project.
The problem appears to be that venvPath no longer expands ${workspaceFolder}

That is good insight. Can you set log level to trace ( using command Set Log Level), reload vs code, and share the logs from the Python Locator?

Now I'm confused. I tried again on a different computer.
VSCode version: 1.94.2
python-extension version: v2024.16.1
OS Version: Ubuntu 20.04 (yeah... I need to upgrade... yesterday I was running on my Macbook)
and, in this environment, I AM able to select .tox/default virtual environment (with "Python: Select Interpreter").
with:

"python.venvPath": "${workspaceFolder}/.tox"
