VScode does not recognize any of the conda environment

I used to be able to choose the appropriate Anaconda environment from Command Palette however when I open the VScode today I should have messed up the configuration somehow that it does not really show any conda environment (even the base).

When I type conda env list in the anaconda prompt it shows the list of all the environments correctly. I am using Windows 10 and I am wondering what could possibly go wrong here since I cannot really use VSCode anymore (It will not recognize any environment or any package).

Can anyone help me fix this?

The way the extension finds environments is outlined in https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/python/environments#_where-the-extension-looks-for-environments. Is conda no longer on your PATH? Have you set python.condaPath?

Thank you. No, I have not set the python.condaPath.
My Anaconda version is 4.8 and never set the python.condaPath in the user setting in VSCode but it could always find the conda environment. This problem happened after I updated my VSCode yesterday.

I can link to the environment manually but I want it to find it automatically. Is setting python.condaPath a new required thing? Why conda should no longer be on my path?

I have no idea why conda may no longer be on your PATH as that's an OS/conda thing, not a VS Code thing. And the python.condaPath is not a requirement, just a suggested workaround if conda has fallen off of your PATH settings.

Another option is to launch VS Code from an activated conda environment as we will detect that and use that conda environment automatically.
