From the discussion on 2022-02-01:

Original question: Can we have this meeting later in the PST timezone?

  • Current time slot is hard for folks from ASIA and PST time zones.
  • General issue: people joining from Asian, Europe, America, no overlap in working hours
  • Maybe have multiple sessions in different time zones?
    • How to keep the group connected then?

Current time slot is Tuesday 5pm CET/ 8am PST

I think it might be good if we can hold two IWG meetings for different timezones so that we will have a great flexibility. One meeting for US, Europe, Asia/Australia is difficult.

On the other hand it's pretty important not to split the attendees, so we won't have different people in different timezones

It will be impossible to meet the needs of every attendee, but I think we should try another time slot to see who else can join if we change it up a bit. We can start with one meeting at another time, post the agenda ahead of time on the forums, and then have reminders as well. Is the zoom link posted publicly anywhere or do you have to be on the calendar invite? (I poked around and didn't see it but maybe we need to make it more obvious.. or its just me).

Should we setup a poll?
I did it on Discourse in the past: https://discourse.llvm.org/t/best-time-for-the-mlir-open-meeting/2895

I think that alternating between two time slots >8h apart might be a good option.

@tlattner right now the zoom link is only in the calendar invite. Should we make that public? Not sure what the implications with sharing Zoom links are...

from 2022-02-15:

  • we should definitely have a 2nd meeting in PST time zone
    • probably late PST work day
  • have meeting alternate every two weeks between time slots
  • @rnk and @joker-eph willing to host a 2nd meeting and propose a time slot
    • then we'll figure out the logistics
  • next step: ask on discourse for the two most popular slots.

I said I would take on this task and put together a poll, but I'm not convinced at this point that we need more IWG meetings, so I don't plan to work on this in the future. I would be willing to join a second time slot if anyone else wants to put together a poll.

Newbie q: what's the current schedule and link for IWG meetings ? Thinking about joining, I do a bit of this kind of infra/ops thing for some other open source projects, and I make occasional contribs to various things too.
