TL;DR : the io TLD might go away (with a timeline on years scale).

Depending on the outcome of the above issue, we should pro-actively migrate our defaults registry address, just in case.
(Might affect other adjacent things, like quay.io)

Not a big deal, but let's keep an eye on this

I think this issue should require many changes (e.g., domains for other images) and constant attention this.

Note: I think most of us generally don't actually expect that .io is going anywhere for the moment

but we are discussing preemptively making sure a project as large as Kubernetes has alternate domains parked. And discussing how we should NOT be making any more drastic changes.
