Describe the bug
Player getting doubled effects from an aura. (Not the originating token but another player's token).

We just ran our first session on the 2024 rules with the 4.0.2 D&D system. Ran into a small bug with Active Auras. I have a paladin in the group with an Aura of Protection. I modified the Protected effect from the aura to use Active Auras such that it could actually apply to other players tokens.

Over the course of play, while the players were moving around and exploring, we noted several times one person kept getting double effects from the aura. Moving their token out of the aura would cause both copies to drop and it would go back to normal if he stepped back into it.

I don't have an exact set of reproduction steps as I can't seem to replicate it on my own. Likely something to do with both tokens moving at once?

Expected behavior
Only one copy of the Effect being applied by the aura to a token :)

Environment:

  • Foundry Version: V12 331
  • D&D System: 4.0.2
  • Module Version: 0.9.15
  • Players Handbook: 1.1.2
  • All Modules Disabled: No
  • Module List if no: Active Auras, Active Token Effects, Actually Private Messages, Advantage Reminder, Mass Edit, Break Time, Carousel Combat Tracker, Chat Media, Combat Booster, Compact Scene Navigation, DDB-Importer, Dice Tray, Droplet, Players Handbook, Elevation Ruler, Force Client Settings, Forgotten Adventures Battlemaps, GM Vision, Health Estimate, Item Piles, Data Inspector, Monk's Active Tile Triggers, Prime Performance, Roll Toasts, Simple Calendar, SmallTime, socketlib, Tagger, Tasha's, Times Up, Token Aura Ring, Tokenizer, Vision 5e, Visual Active Effects.

This might require DAE to be available to make use of the no duplicate effects feature.

Please can you try with version 0.11.0

Ohhhh! We play this weekend so I'll get this updated and we can see what happens. I'll also try to see if I can't replicate it before then, but IIRC it was kinda hard to replicate by myself and we only saw it being an issue when we were playing.

I appreciate you following up on this!

Just playing with this a bit. I noticed that when activating a scene Active Auras is applying the aura to a bunch of tokens not inside of the aura (but also missing stuff inside the aura). This then fixes itself the moment the token with the aura moves.

(Notice the horses on the right all have the effects applied to them)

(And then things behave as expected once the Paladin shifts position)

I'm guessing this is related to the above change. If not, I'm happy to open a new ticket.

On the plus side, I haven't seen any effect duplication yet. But I won't know for sure until we play this weekend.

Oh, interesting, how are you applying the aura here? Is this via an item activation/effect toggle?

Edited the effect provided by the Paladin class feature.

I am getting this same problem, I have 3 Auras configured the same way but only one is duplicating now.

This is on active Auras 0.11.3

I'm sorry, I meant to come back to this after having a session or two. I haven't been noticing my original doubling issue on the current version of AA.

So it seems to be solved for me.
