Maths mode preceded or followed by punctuation not treated as an atomic unit

A simple inline maths mode statement preceded or followed by punctuation such as $m$. or ($v_P$) is not treated as an atomic unit, both in repo readmes and issues. Therefore, the punctuation may be wrapped to the next line leaving the maths mode content on the previous line or vice versa.
