This year's project isn't quite done, but it's done enough to share a preview, I think. I plan to spend some more time tonight getting it all the way to 50K, and eventually I'll generate a nice-looking PDF which will hopefully including some illustrations. But for now, here is a text file:

The premise is fairly simple: back in September, I took a long hike, covering about 50 miles in two days. I exported the GPX data from that hike and wrote some code that narrates my journey point-by-point. For example,

I proceeded twenty steps generally northward, and then going left, I walked forty-four steps to the northwest. Next, turning a bit to the left, I hiked forty-four steps to the northwest. Then angling just a little left, I went another eighteen steps generally westward. After that, bearing slightly left, I strolled eighteen steps due west, noting that the trail up ahead ascended slightly.

As you'll see, I negotiate stream crossings and ponder the proximity of nearby mountain peaks.
