- "text": "Our BioGenies team – Michał, Jarek, Krysia, Weronika, and Oriol – had an unforgettable week at HUPO 2024 in Dresden! Here’s the highlight reel:\n\n\nWe started the week with a stroll to explore the conference site and snapped a photo of the iconic Yenidze, a former cigarette factory with a unique design 🕌.\n\nThat evening, we picked up Oriol from the airport ✈️ and headed to Sophienkeller to dive into local Dresden delicacies 🥨🍖.\n\n\n\n\nSunday night kicked off with the opening ceremony and welcome reception 🍾, followed by an Early Career Researchers Networking Night. Despite the darkness on our boat tour 🌌, we made the most of it by networking with fellow researchers. The highlight? Watching as they joined two boats together – an unexpected twist to the night! 🚢\n\n\n\n\nMonday saw some friendly rivalry when Jarek and Krysia discovered an air hockey table! After an intense game, it ended in a tie 🤝.\n\nLater, Krysia reunited with our colleague Dominik in the plenary hall,\n\nand Jarek, Weronika, and Oriol snapped some fun group photos 📸.\n\n\n\n\nEach of us had poster sessions on different days, and it was exciting to see such strong interest in our research 🧬📈. The steady traffic at our posters highlighted the growing excitement around our work!\n\n\n\n\nBetween sessions, we sampled even more homemade Dresden dishes – fueling our research discussions and conference exploration 🥘💪.\n\n\n\n\nWe carved out some time to visit the famous Bastei Bridge. Though the heavy fog limited the view 🌫️, it added a mystique that made for an unforgettable (and chilly) adventure! 🏞️\n \n\n\n\nOriol’s return flight was suddenly canceled due to an airport strike 😱. But no worries – Michał, Jarek, and Weronika swooped in 🚗, picking him up from his hotel to drive him back to the airport.\n\n\n\nAfter the conference wrapped up, Weronika and Jarek spent Friday exploring the beautiful Dresdner Zwinger – a perfect way to close out a memorable week of science and sightseeing 🏛️✨.\n\nThanks, HUPO 2024, for the inspiring talks, new connections, and unforgettable memories! Until next time, Dresden! 🇩🇪💫"

It offers a unique blend of cultural richness, historical depth, and natural beauty that makes it an attractive destination for visitors.\n\nCultural and Historical Heritage\nBiałystok boasts a fascinating multicultural heritage, influenced by various ethnic groups, including Poles, Belarusians, Lithuanians, Jews, and Tatars. This diversity is reflected in the city’s architecture, cuisine, and cultural institutions. One of the city’s most notable landmarks is the Branicki Palace, often referred to as the “Polish Versailles.” This stunning baroque residence is surrounded by beautiful gardens and is a testament to the city’s historical significance.\n\n\nNatural Beauty\nThe region around Białystok is renowned for its pristine natural landscapes. The Białowieża Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of the last and largest remaining parts of the primeval forest that once covered much of Europe. Home to the European bison, the forest offers numerous trails for hiking, bird watching, and experiencing unspoiled nature. The Narew National Park, known as the “Polish Amazon,” features unique river landscapes with meandering channels and abundant wildlife, perfect for canoeing and nature excursions.\n\n\nFestivals and Events\nBiałystok hosts several festivals that celebrate its cultural diversity and vibrant arts scene. The Białystok Puppet Theater Festival attracts performers and audiences from around the world, showcasing the best in puppetry and theater. The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, one of the most modern cultural institutions in Poland, offers a range of concerts, operas, and ballet performances.\n\n\nCulinary Delights\nVisitors to Białystok can savor the region’s unique culinary offerings, which blend Polish, Lithuanian, Belarusian, and Jewish influences. Traditional dishes such as potato babka, kiszka ziemniaczana (potato sausage), and kartacze (potato dumplings) provide a hearty and delicious introduction to local flavors. The city also has a growing number of contemporary restaurants and cafes that highlight regional ingredients in innovative ways.\n\n\nWarm Hospitality\nThe people of Białystok are known for their hospitality and friendliness. Whether you’re exploring the historic streets of the city center, visiting local markets, or hiking in the surrounding countryside, you can expect a warm welcome and a genuine interest in sharing the beauty and culture of their region.\n\n\nAccessibility\nBiałystok is well-connected by road and rail, making it an accessible destination from major Polish cities like Warsaw. Navigating complexities of paperwork 📝 and bureaucratic processes 🏢 can often feel like a marathon 🏃💨. Opening the position, getting all the documents in order, and coordinating between many people took plenty of determination 💪! But in the end, we triumphed! 🎉✨\n\n\nTo celebrate this exciting milestone, we headed to Choroszcz to enjoy some delicious food 🍽️. Known for its famous mental hospital 🏥, the town offered a unique backdrop for our celebration, and we couldn’t have picked a better place to mark the occasion!\n\n\n\n\nAs Valen settles into his new role, we still have to do some stuff at tax office.\nBut with enough time in Białystok, Valen may become so immersed in the Polish way of life that we’ll soon have to start calling him Walentyn Kościelny! 😄🇵🇱🥟\nWelcome on aboard, Valen! 🚀🎉"
